Kate Dean has become the interim director of the Essentia Institute of Rural Health, taking over for current Executive Director Rick Ziegler
, who will retire Feb. 3. The change was announced by Essentia Health Chief Executive Officer David C. Herman
Ziegler, who was the institute’s executive director for four years, has been in the health care field for 30 years. His career includes a long tenure as the dean of the University of Minnesota Medical School in Duluth.
“I thank Rick for his leadership and service,” Dr. Herman says. “I’m confident his work will help make a healthy difference in our patients’ lives for many years to come.”
Dean, currently the EIRH’s director of education, has been a health care operations and medical education leader for more than 13 years. She has bachelor’s degrees in biology and communications from the University of Minnesota Duluth and a master’s degree in business administration from Marylhurst University in Oregon.
“Please join me in welcoming Kate to her new interim role and wishing Rick the very best as he enters this next chapter in life,” Dr. Herman says.
